Indian Navy Physical and Medical Standard


Exam - Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per the medical standards prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors and Officers Entry.

Height Required for Join Indian Navy - For Male Candidates Minimum Height 157cm and Female Candidate Minimum Height 152cm. 

Weight and Chest should be proportionate and Minimum chest expansion of  5 cm. Details  regarding minimum height standards for entry into the Indian Navy as Sailors and Officers, including applicable relaxations, can be accessed from the official Indian Navy recruitment website.

The candidate must be in good physical and mental health, free from any defect likely to the interfere with the efficient performance of duties both ashore and afloat under peace as well as war conditions as per Navy Order (Special) 01/2008. Re medical - Preliminary Medical Examination for recruitment will be considered only Provisionally (Initial) fit subject to fitness in the Final Medical Examination. Final Enrolment Medical Examination of all selected candidates will be held at INS Chilka Indian Navy Training Center. Candidates who are found medically fit in Final Enrolment to Medical Examination will be enrolled. Candidates who are found medically unfit will be advised to appeal against its, if they so desire, at INHS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam within a maximum period of 21 days.

Note - Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax, and tartar removed from teeth prior to initial and final medical examination.

Visual Standards - Distance Vision Only
  • Without Glass - 6/6 - 6/9
  • With Glass - 6/6 - 6/6
  • Visual Standard is Different for Different posts But Common visual standers is given.
Tattoos Criteria - Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on the inner face of forearms That is from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reversed side of palm / back side of hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body is not acceptable and candidate will be banned from indian navyy recruitment.

Applicants declared permanent medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in previous recruitment for the same entry in Navy need not apply

Note - While recording the measurements, 
  • Reading shaving Less than 0.5 cm will be recorded as 0.0 cm
  • 0.5 cm will be recorded as 0.5 cm
  • More than 0.5 cm will be recorded as a 1 cm.
Short Complete Information - Indian Navy Medical examination will be conducted by authorized Military Doctors (Naval Doctors) as per medical standard prescribed under current regulations applicable to the sailors and Officers of Indian Navy entry. The detailed for medical standards are laid down by in Navy Order (Special) by Indian Head Quarter Ministry Of Defence (Navy). Physical include minimum height of 157 cm with proportionate body weight, depending on the age and Height of the candidate also He should also have proportionate chest with minimum expansion capability of 5 cm. Candidate should possess good mental and physical health, should be free from any disease and disability and have no cardio vascular diseases, surgical deformities like Knock Knees, Flat Foot and etc. Candidate should not have a past history of fits or psychiatric ailments, Varicose-veins etc. He should not have any type of infection in the ears. Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and removed from teeth before appearing for the written test, which is followed by Physical Fitnss Test and Medical examination. Candidate should possess Colour perception standard of CP II and Eyes Visual standards should meet the under mentioned prescribed standards officers and sailors for both the conditions that is with glasses and without glasses.
