UPSC CDS Exam Selection Process



Short Information - UPSC Conducts Combined Defense Services Examination (CDS) is a Two Tier (Two Stage) exam conduct to select the candidates for admission to Indian Naval Academy (Indian Navy)  (INA), Indian Military Academy (IMA), Air Force Academy and Indian Officers Training Academy (OTA). Interested Candidates can Apply Online Appplication form Twice in Year on UPSC Official Website. Those Candidates are Intreasted Can Read Notification Carefully before Apply Online Application Form.

UPSC CDS Eligibility Criteria

  • Online Applications are Invited for Unmarried Men & Women Candidates (Who Full Fill Eligibility Conditions as laid Down by Government of India).
  • No. of Vacancies - Approximately 430 Posts (Army, Navy, Air force)



CDS Education Qualification

  • Indian Military Academy IMA - Passed or Appearing in Bachelor Degree in Any Stream at Any Recognized University (Approved By AICTE).
  • Indian Naval Academy INA - Passed or Appearing in  Bachelor Degree in Engineering Branch at Any Recognized University (Approved by AICTE)
  • Indian Air Force - Candidate Have Passed Bachelor Degree in Any Stream with Physics, Mathematics in 10+2 (12th) Level / Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Approved by AICTE)
  • Officers Training Academy  OTA - Passed or Appearing in Bachelor Degree in Any Stream at Any Recognized University (Approved By AICTE).
  • Age Criteria - Minimum age 19 years to Maximum age 24 Years (Candidates Can Read Full Notification Time to time on Official UPSC Website)

 Combined Defence Services Exam (CDS) Selection Process


 The Combined Defence Service Exam (CDS) Involves Two Stages.
  • Written Examination
  • Service Selection Board SSB Interview 
  • Final Merit List
Written Examination - The Written Exam is conducted in offline mode. The exam pattern is different for Branch Posts candidates for admission to OTA and those Candidates give admission in to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Air force.

Exam Type - This exam will be Pen and Paper-based.
Exam Language - Hindi and English
Exam Duration - 6 Hours for IMA, INA, IAF or 4 Hours for OTC.
Total Question - 340 Question for IMA, INA, IAF or 240 Question for OTA.
Total Marks - 300 Marks for IMA, INA, IAF or 200 Marks for OTA
Negative Marking - 1/3rd of the marks allotted to a question will deducted for wrong answer.
Exam Based - Offline Based Examination 

Merit List - If a candidate score more than the cut off score set by the IMA, INA, IAF, and OTA then he will be eligible to appear for the next round which is SSB Interview (5 Days Round).
