Indian Coast Guard Physical standard & Medical Standards

Eligibility Criteria - Based on the performance in the written examination or Coast Guard Interview, candidates will be shortlisted for initial recruitment medical examination (Preliminary) in a ratio as may be decided by the Indian Coast Guard as per Vacancy's of Officers and Sailors Naviks.


Physical & Medical Standards

Examination - Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per the medical standards prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors and Officers Entry.

Height Requirement - Minimum Height 157 Cm. Reduction in height for candidates from hilly areas and tribal areas will be in accordance with the Central Government orders.

Weight - Weight Proportionate to height and age + or -10 percentage (%) Acceptable.

Chest - Chest Should be well proportioned and  Minimum expansion 5 Cm.

Important Note (Ear / Teeth) - Candidates are Advised to get their Ears Cleaned for Wax and Tartar removed from Teeth prior to examination.

Visual Standards (Eye Standards) -  6/6 (Better Eye) and 6/9 (Worse Eye). (Those Candidates using glasses are not eligible for ICG Recruitment). (Please Refer Latest Notifications for Officers Post)

Tattoo Criteria - Permanent body Tattoos are not permitted on any part of the body. However, Certain concessions are permitted to Candidates belonging to tribal areas communities as declared by the Government of India. For other candidates, Permanent body Tattoos are only Permitted on inner face of forearms That is from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm / back side of hand. Important Note - Applicants Declared Permanent Medically unfit by any Indian Armed Forces Hospital in Previous recruitment for the same entry in Indian Coast Guard are advised not to apply.

Re-Medical Examination - Candidates who are Qualified in Written Exam & PFT will undergo Preliminary Recruitment medical examination. Candidates declared Temporary Medically Unfit in the Preliminary Recruitment Medicals can avail Specialist Review from the specified Military Hospital within a maximum period of  21 days. No further review / appeal is permissible if Declared Unfit in the Specialist Review.


Final Medical Examination (Final Enrolment Medical Examination)

Initial Medical Examination for Recruitment will be considered only 'Provisionally fit subject to fitness in the final Medical Examination' Final Medical Examination of all selected candidates will be done at INS Chilka (Indian Navy & Coast Guard Training Centre). Candidates, who are NOT found Medically fit in the final medical examination at INS Chilka, will NOT be enrolled for training. An Appeal is permitted for medically unfit candidates after the final enrolment medical examination at INS Chilka and will be given an opportunity to appeal against the findings if they so desire at INS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam  within a maximum period of  21  days or as decided by INS Chilka.
