The Indian Coast Guard was formally Established on 18 August 1978 by the Coast Guard Act 1978 of the Parliament of India as an Independent Armed force of India. It Operates under the Ministry of Defence.

Naviks Promotion - Promotion Prospects Exist upto the Rank of Pradhan Adhikari with Pay Scale Rs.47600 /- (Pay Level 8) with Dearness Allowance DA Applicable. Promotion to the Officer cadre is subject to suitability and performance.

Yantriks Promotion - Promotion Prospects Exist upto the Rank of Pradhan Sahayak Engineer with Pay Scale Rs.47600 /- plus Yantrik Pay @ Rs.6200/- with Dearness Allowance DA is Applicable. Promotion to the next Rank and Officer cadre is subject to suitability and performance.
